Colorado, USA

This is another "mystery locality" specimen. Benjy Kuehling of Ouray, Colorado, collected it from one of his 'secret' collecting spots. Benjy is a well-known field collector who has explored most of the territory around Ouray, as well as other Colorado mineral sites - maybe one of these days the actual location for this Quartz will be revealed. For Colorado it is quite atypical, being quite narrow .75 inch (1.92 cm) at the base of the main crystal and also for its length of 8.75 inches (22.3 cm). The transparency is very good and luster is variable with three adjoining faces being brilliant and the other three exhibiting the "etch patterns" characteristic of twinning. Of the several side crystals only one is complete, the rest show signs of in-pocket damage to tips, etc. This striking Colorado specimen is displayed on an acrylic base.
    Overall measurements: 8.75 x 2 inches (22.2 x 5.1 cm). Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Collected by Benjy Kuehling of the Columbine Rock Shop [Hoppel Catalog # D0748]

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
