For those of you who do not speak Afrikaans, getting your tongue wrapped around the name of the closest village might be asking a bit much, which is why the distinctive Quartz groups of the region ended up being called "Spirit Quartz" or "Magaliesberg Quartz" even though they are not from the Magaliesberg Mountains, and, they probably aren't infested with spirits. What they are is easily identifiable: the stubby main crystals in a group are covered with tiny secondary Quartz crystals, but only on the sides of the larger central one. They come in several colors: Amethyst, as you can see here, Citrine and colorless. All tend to be on a hard, massive Quartz matrix. Central crystals rarely exceed one inch in height. Condition, size, and color, are the main criteria when judging these pieces. This is one of the better examples because of the deep Amethyst coloration and high luster. Comes with a custom acrylic base.
