Fine Minerals

    La Rioja

Pyrite is a highly recognizable mineral and cherished by collectors for its many amazing habits. These large cubic crystals have developed naturally and present in a truly remarkable manner. This is a sizable specimen with huge cubes of mesmerizing Pyrite on a matrix that came out during the classic mining era for this material. This outstanding example was probably mined out of the Czar Shaft sometime during the late 1800s to up to 1910. This is one of the largest, finer specimens of this style and happens to be in good condition. This massive "Fool's Gold" features amazing luster, and it sparkles on all of its "mirror" faces. The stunning Pyrite cubes are imbedded in a marl matrix made up of clay and lime dating to the Cretaceous Period. Each cube features sharp edges and lustrous faces. There are a few minor nicks to the backside of a couple of the crystals, but the minimal damage does not detract from the immense visual appeal of this major specimen. The very best cubic Pyrite in the world comes from this locality. This specimen comes with a custom acrylic base.
