Huanzala, Huallanca Dist., Dos de Mayo Prov., Huánuco Dept., Peru

Did you ever wonder how big Pyrite crystals can get? How about: 7.28 inches (18.5 cm) on edge. Measuring across the crystal gets you around 11.4 inches (29 cm) - not a diminutive shrinking violet, but a shrieking, brassy Valkyrie of a Pyrite. To add to the mystique of this dainty, golden charmer; it is an octahedral Pyrite crystal, not the more proletarian, cubic version. Several, secondary octahedra emerge like alien larvae from the shining faces of the mother crystal. Since their faces are all co-planar with the mother octahedron's faces, it should dawn upon the viewer: They're all the same crystal! Very minor nicks to crystal faces, otherwise it is in excellent to pristine condition. There are some associated white amorphous Quartz, or Calcite, on three faces, otherwise no matrix or other associated minerals.
    Overall Measurements: 11.4 x 6.4 x 5.4 inches (29.1 x 16.4 x 13.8 cm)

    Provenance: Ex. Robert Nowakowski Collection
