The mineral (Iron) Pyrite is also known as "Fool's Gold" for obvious reasons, and it would be foolish to overlook this striking specimen. Groups of Pyrite crystals like this example are not widely common. An anomaly of sorts, it consists of one large octahedral crystal with triangular faces and several secondary co-planar octahedral crystals emerging from the sides. The larger face measures a very sizable 4 inches (10.16 cm) on edge. This entire specimen exhibits a scintillating "mirror-like" gold appearance, and the piece has no additional matrix. There are a few minor nicks to the crystal faces; otherwise, the chunk is in excellent condition. The etched texture on the smooth surface adds depth to the pyramidal example.
