One of the nicest combinations to come out of the Indian Zeolite Quarries of the Deccan Plateau are the epimorphs of Prehnite on Calcite from Virar north of Mumbai. The Prehnite from Virar is a lovely pastel green, and the combined translucency of the Prehnite and the Calcite brings out a luscious appearance closest in effect to fine Jade. The hexagonal wafers of Calcite that furnish the 'skeleton' for the overlying Prehnite are exceptionally thin (0.2 mm), but they were enough to support the 'drapery' of the Prehnite crystals. The specimen is in excellent condition with just a small break at one edge - the only way to ascertain just how thin the Calcite wafers really are.
