Polished Turquoise Nugget
    Mun. de Nacozari de García

This undeniable museum quality piece of Turquoise comes from Nacozari de Garcia in Sonora, Mexico. The polished nugget weighs in at a monstrous 24.3 lbs. (11 kg). The superlatives are seemingly endless for describing such an impressive example of the secondary mineral associated with Copper deposits.
The piece exhibits an amazingly rich, truly "turquoise" blue coloration which is consistent across and throughout the uniquely robust specimen. There is really no front or back to the nugget as both sides are phenomenal and worthy of attention. In fact, the natural "mountain-shaped" form is an attractive piece from all angles as the appealing texture and color are consistent 360 degrees around the superb rock. The twisted and crenellated surface has resulted in what visually looks like a conglomeration of numerous large nugget-like portions fused together although there is no doubt this is a single mineral.

The indentations and "veinous" distinctions between the pronounced nodular aspects of this massive Turquoise specimen add elegant contrast to the surface of the piece as the silver, gold and even black lines and flecks stand out from, and yet actually complement rather than compete with, the beautiful blue which is clearly the most dominant feature of this collectible and decorative piece.

This exquisite specimen can be displayed vertically or horizontally with significant impact but does sit securely in a custom wooden display beveled cup stand with a horizontal orientation. Turquoise in its higher grades has been prized since antiquity for jewelry and ornamentation applications no doubt in part due to its unique and captivating hue. This stellar example of the typically blue-green phosphate certainly supports the historical popularity of the material which is characteristically cryptocrystalline having variable properties as a result of it almost never forming in single crystals. This fine example of the opaque gem shows no indications of treatment, other than stabilization and polishing, which is becoming less and less common with Turquoise specimens in modern times. This natural example is as good as they get.
