Bombay Quarry, Mumbai District (Bombay District), Maharashtra, India
Okenite was the original 'pet rock', predating the marketing of the googly-eyed stream cobbles of the 1970's, by one or two hundred million years, give or take a few million. The reason why Okenite is a shoe-in for this dubious status revolves around it's ability to tolerate a certain amount of 'petting' without damage to the colorless fuzzy crystals that form globular clusters of this exotic Zeolite mineral. Here we have two clusters of Okenite languidly resting in the crystal-lined cavity that they have called home for all those years. Accompanying them are smaller spherical groups of colorless Gyrolite, which are not particularly fuzzy or desirous of petting. The basalt lava flow where this 'bubble' formed has been cleverly chipped away by the skilled hands and tools of Indian stone workers, familiar with such things, leaving a variant on the classic "Easter Egg" theme. Pristine condition.
