Description
NeptuniteCalifornia State Gem Mine, Santa Rita Peak, San Benito Co., California, USA
9.3 x 8.5 x 2.6 cm (3.69 x 3.36 x 1.03 in)
Specimen-quality Neptunite is found almost exclusively at the California State Gem Mine (also known as the Benitoite Mine), and is named after the Roman god of the sea, Neptune: a dramatic name for a dramatically-beautiful species! Needless to say, the two primary Neptunite crystals of this specimen are absolutely massive, with two chunky, satisfying terminations that are in pristine condition. The larger of these two crystals is 4.4 centimeters in length, an exceptional size. The two crystals are arranged in an aesthetically pleasing V-shape, and are outlined by a bright white Natrolite matrix, the perfect contrast against the deep black Neptunite. Dotted around this matrix are more Neptunite prisms, jutting out of the Natrolite into the air. It would not be a reach to say that this is one of the most beautiful cabinet-sized Neptunite specimens to be made available on the recent market.
