Sacarîmb (Sãcãrâmb; Szekerembe; Nagyág), Deva, Hunedoara Co., Romania

Romania has been the source of Native Gold specimens for centuries, and the mines of the area still produce an occasional specimen. Based on the old label, this unusual Native Gold piece was probably removed from the ground some 40 to 50 (or more) years ago. Fairly typical of the locality, it shows clumps of leaf type Native Gold up to 17 mm across, intermingled with gray druzy Quartz and some Sylvanites, which are the gray, flaky crystals. The matrix is a medium gray volcanic breccia with microscopic Pyrite as an occasional inclusion.
