Ipê Mine, Governador Valadares, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil

The Mica group of minerals doesn't merit a lot of interest as specimens, chiefly because most examples are: small, non-descript, beat-up, or supporting actors to another more valuable/impressive mineral. On the other hand, it's hard to ignore a Muscovite Mica specimen featuring 7+ stout, golden hexagons up to 5.3 inches (13.6 cm) across. This Muscovite is found in the same type of deposits that produce gem Tourmalines, Aquamarines and the like. For it to have been saved is an indication of how special this group is compared to the 'average' specimen. The blades all rise from a matrix of 'clouds' of white Feldspar crystals. This specimen is in excellent condition, particularly for this mineral, in this size.
    Overall measurements: 10 x 8 x 7 inches (25.4 x 20.3 x 17.8 cm). Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Luiz Meneze [Hoppel Catalog # D1178]

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
