Pala District
    San Diego Co.
    California, USA
    6.50 x 4.49 x 3.27 inches (16.50 x 11.40 x 8.30 cm)

This is a classic, composite specimen - a mix of pink Morganite with heavily included Quartz on a Cleavelandite matrix. The Morganite shows the stout barrel shape and pink coloration typical for Morganites of the Pala District. The stubby Quartz crystals bear a light smoky color largely obscured by microscopic inclusions of a clay mineral, frequently referred to as Montmorillonite. Bladed Cleavelandite of a faint blue color forms the matrix for the combination. The luster exhibited by the Morganite varies from quite glassy to milky. The Morganite is in pristine condition, with no nicks or dings, and the Quartz bears one bruise on its backside. Two labels accompany the specimen and a note indicates the piece was part of the collection of Charles Steen. This specimen is a true classic of Southern California minerals.

    Provenance: Western Minerals [Hoppel #D0217]
