Description

    MIMETITE with CALCITE
Potosí Mine, Aquiles Serdan, West Camp, Santa Eulalia District, Mun. de Aquiles Serdán, Chihuahua, Mexico

The underground workings of the Potosí Mine are extensive, with frequently encountered caves and fissures that are lined with glittering crystals. Between the Eighth and Ninth Levels of the mine, there was a considerable amount of Mimetite found, coating opaque rhombs of Calcite. These Mimetites occur as radiating sprays of golden, micro-crystals with a scintillating luster; quite different from those of San Pedro Corralitos. The matrix is visually reminiscent of dark chocolate cake where it appears on the sides and bottom of the piece. The condition of the piece is excellent with only minor spots showing 'contact.'
    Overall Measurements: 4.46 x 3.45 x 2.36 inches (11.35 x 8.77 x 6.0 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Dan Weinrich Minerals [Hoppel #D1921]
