Description

    LIDDICOATITE & QUARTZ
    Abarararata, Ikalamavony, Madagascar

You are cordially invited to attempt pronounciation of the locality, then have a drink - then try again. It won't help. Luckily, you don't need to be able to pronounce the locality in order to appreciate this large matrix specimen that consists of a mix of Feldspar, Tourmaline and a rather sizable Quartz crystal masquerading as a Feldspar, due to the heavy dose of white inclusions located just below the surface. Tourmaline color in the longer prismatic crystals is a mix of smoky banding with alternating "peachy" areas and growing green interiors towards the terminations, which are a rosy peach-pink color. The 'stouter' Tourmaline crystals typically show Indicolite blue coloration over pink. Tourmaline luster varies from waxy to glassy. All major Tourmalines appear to be terminated. Even the Quartz crystals are in excellent condition. This unusual specimen has a custom labeled base and was expertly restored by a mineralogical laboratory.
    Overall measurements: 7.2 x 4.1 x 5.7 inches (18.3 x 10.3 x 14.5 cm)

    Estimate: $30,000 - $50,000.
