    Description

    LEITEITE with IANBRUCEITE
Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

Leiteite is pretty much, a one-locality mineral, and that locality is Tsumeb in Namibia. All of the better examples of this extremely rare zinc arsenate mineral are from there. Of the few examples known, this is the largest and most impressive of them all. The pearly luster is due to the highly sectile nature of this mineral, and is especially pronounced in this example. Curved surfaces dominate the overall form of the specimen and its' color varies from the dark gray of thicker sections to colorless in the thinner ones. There are also microscopic traces of blue Ianbruceite (formerly referenced as GS-17), a rare, newly identified (2012) arsenate mineral. To re-iterate: this is a world-class specimen. There will be none better coming out of the ground, or on the market, anytime soon.
    Overall measurements: 7.5 x 2.5 x 1.5 inches (19.1 x 6.4 x 3.8 cm). Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Ex. C. Carter Rich Collection, ex. Marshall & Charlotte Sussman Collection [Hoppel Catalog # D1945]

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
