Waigon, Dara-i-Pech Pegmatite Field, Chapa Dara District, Kunar Province, Nuristan, Afghanistan

The area comprising Dara-i-Pech: "The Valley of Pech" hosts two basic varieties of pegmatites, one of which features complex Lithium-Beryllium components and usually includes the mineral: Spodumene, the gem variety of which is Kunzite. It was the Dara-i-Pech area that produced this lilac tinted gem crystal. Stouter than normal, the crystal barrages the viewer with reflections from dozens of glassy faces and growth features which are visible on all surfaces of the crystal. The basal areas show that the stubby prism was sheared from its attachment point on the wall of the "pocket" and subsequently continued growth on all surfaces, including the sheared ones. The interior is quite gemmy and transparent and would furnish faceted gemstones should one be philistine enough to consider such an option. Luster is glassy and the overall condition appears to be excellent with no visible damage to display surfaces. Some "tube-type" inclusions, but most of the crystal is "clean."
    Overall Measurements: 3.44 x 2.44 x 1.64 inches (8.76 x 6.2 x 4.19 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Ex. Hoppel Collection #D0287, ex. Mountain Minerals
