Description

    Kunzite
Mawi Pegmatite, Nilaw-Kolum Pegmatite Field, Du Ab District, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan

Kunzite is one of those minerals that doesn't have much variety of form, which is why this one is different enough to be worth looking at. We can guarantee that this is a unique Kunzite crystal. Like Zen calligraphy; it isn't what is there that is important: it's what isn't there. The Why of its several perforations is a matter best left for the boffins. The mere existence of this exotic artifact of geological wizardry is enough for the rest of us mere mortals. Pale violet in hue, the luster is satin due to the numerous parallel faces on both sides. Originally attached to a cavity wall, close examination of the "bottom" of the crystal indicates that it was broken free before the cycle of its crystallization was complete. This would imply that the specimen was a "floater" in the late stages of it's growth: an uncommon occurrence and possibly linked to the hole in its heart. Condition is excellent to pristine with no apparent damage.
