DescriptionKunzite on Quartz
Paprok, Kamdesh Dist., Nuristan Prov., Afghanistan
Here we have a large, semi-transparent Quartz crystal, partially embedded in a rounded mass of colorless Cleavelandite on one side, with a couple of globular Muscovite groups stuck on the other. Two sizable lilac-pink Kunzite crystals appear to have been "eaten" by one end of the Quartz, to the point that they they are partially enclosed by it. The Kunzite appears to have been fractured during growth, with the pieces being held in alignment by the surrounding Quartz. The Quartz shows glassy luster and the terminal faces show a weird "crackle" effect. Both Kunzites are incomplete due to either, breakage during growth, or dissolution after growth, but the remaining Kunzite shows fine luster and heavily striated surfaces. There is a "ding" on the backside of the main Quartz crystal; otherwise overall condition is fine to excellent.
