Description

Hematite & Quartz
Jinlong Hill, Longchuan Co., Heyuan, Guangdong, China

Presented here is a sculptural, exceptionally three-dimensional Quartz-Hematite piece from Jinlong Hill, now a classic Chinese occurrence for this combination. Rosettes of shiny, charcoal-gray, bladed Hematite crystals measuring over 4 cm are clustered along the length of the piece. Emerging from around the Hematite clusters are numerous, terminated, water-clear Quartz crystals from 1 to 4 cm in length. A few small plates of Hematite decorate the prism faces of some of these Quartz crystals. This piece is exceptional for the find because of the lack of Iron staining typical of these. The Quartz crystals are limpid and glassy, and the Hematite plates and rosettes are large and bright, a noteworthy set of attributes. The piece is also devoid of any damage to the Quartz crystals, and the Hematite crystals are all essentially intact, with only minor bruising locally that is barely discernible. This is a very fine combination specimen beyond the normal quality from this locality. Overall, this presents with great balance and aesthetics of the classic style for these finds. This example most likely dates to around 15-20 years ago and is originally out of the Ed David Collection.
Measurements: 7.09 x 4.17 x 3.70 inches (18.00 x 10.60 x 9.40 cm)

Provenance: The Collection of a Southern Gentleman, Ex. Ed David Collection
