Description
GalenaHuanzala Mine, Huallanca District
Dos de Mayo Province, Huánuco Department
Peru
5.31 x 3.95 x 2.68 inches (13.5 x 10.05 x 6.82 cm)
Even if there was nothing particularly special about this specimen, it would be something to own simply due to the provenance it was once in the collection of Dr. Ed. David, former Science Advisor to President Richard Nixon! However, it can stand on its own merits as well. This sulfide of Lead displays the very rare "twinned" crystals and is likely one of THE best specimens ever found at Huanzala in Peru. Featuring the uncommon "hopper" habit, this piece includes tabular Baryte crystals intermingled amidst the Galenas. Massive is not enough to describe this metallic marvel that seems more like a meteorite than a mineral.
