Description

Fluorite with Calcite
Minerva No. 1 Mine, Ozark-Mahoning group
Cave-In-Rock Mining Sub-District, Hardin County
Illinois, USA

A quintessential specimen from the famed Fluorite-producing region of southern Illinois, this cluster showcases sharply defined yellow Fluorite crystals, each displaying subtle yet striking purple phantoms near the edges-a hallmark feature of specimens from the Minerva No. 1 Mine. The largest Fluorite cube measures up to 1.25 inches (3 cm) along the edge and exhibits excellent luster and clarity. Enhancing the composition is a pair of well-formed Calcite crystals nestled at one corner, providing both mineralogical contrast and aesthetic balance. This classic association exemplifies the rich mineral diversity of the Cave-In-Rock district and stands as a fine representative of the locality's best material.
Measurements: 5.51 x 4.02 x 2.52 inches (14.00 x 10.20 x 6.40 cm)

Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern California Collector, Ex. Gerard L. Cafesjian Collection
