Description

Fluorite
Rogerley Mine, County Durham, England, UK

Presented here is a glassy, transparent, emerald green, twinned crystals of intense green Fluorite that cover the apex and much of the remainder of this handsome piece from a classic English locality. Many of these stunning crystals show characteristic Fluorite interpenetration twins and are up to 3.7 cm on edge. The color saturation of these crystals is intense and it is augmented by the transparency of the crystals. Some of these enchanting Fluorites, like the largest one at the top, are gemmy to the core and display very fine, barely discernible, concentric growth hillocks on their faces for added effect. The crystal faces and edges of these gorgeous crystals are super sharp. There is actually a gradation in size of the Fluorite crystals from larger at the top to smaller toward the bottom. This piece fluoresces a deep vivid purple in sunlight and is even more pronounced with long-wave UV light. None of the main crystals show any imperfections, and there are only minor contacts near the bottom and backside relating to the smaller crystals. It comes with a custom engraved lucite base on which it sits flat. The exquisite offering was purchased directly from the Fluorite Mining Ventures company of dealers Cal Graeber and Jessie Fisher sometime in the early 2000s.
