Description
Fluorite (Dissolution Edge)Minerva No.1 Mine, Ozark-Mahoning group, Cave-In-Rock Mining Sub-District, Hardin County, Illinois, USA
16.7 x 9.6 x 6.5 cm (6.56 x 3.78 x 2.56 in)
This large, single dissolution edge (similar to a dissolution corner, but retaining the full side of the cube rather than just one tip) of Fluorite perfectly shows the sharp zones of blue, purple, and yellow colors that are an easy indicator of its historic locality. Small, yet prominent, star-like formations are scattered across both of the elongated faces, forming into the thin, purple layer. Along the base of the specimen are isolated patches of root beer-colored Sphalerite that give a nice contrast in color to the Fluorite. Additionally, a transparent, 2.1 centimeter Calcite scalenohedron is tucked away to one side of the specimen.
More Information: Most of the specimen is in great condition, with only some minor abrasions on the edges. There are no repairs or restorations.
