Azul Bien Grande Pocket, 2004
Pederneira Mine, São José da Safira, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil

The single focus of the specimen is an Indicolite prism 3.26 inches (8.3 cm) long by 0.51 inches (1.3 cm) in diameter, emerging like "Excalibur" from the heart of a Smoky Quartz crystal. It shows steel blue coloration for much of its length, shifting by degrees to pale green and is essentially colorless at the termination. Transparency is excellent, and there are numerous gemmy areas, along with a certain amount of inclusions at the termination. Luster varies from waxy to bright, and there are a number of Tourmaline prisms of similar coloration, as well as violet Lepidolite on the back of the specimen. The condition of the Tourmaline is excellent with the exception of the usual repairs Pederneira material requires to deal with breakage that occurred during crystallization. The Smoky Quartz is fairly transparent particularly in the upper reaches, and the complex termination is in excellent condition. It comes with a custom labeled base.
    Overall measurements: 3.0 x 5.3 x 3.0 inches (7.6 x 13.5 x 7.5 cm)
