DIOPTASE (Two Generations) on CALCITE
Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region (Oshikoto), Namibia

When Mother Nature makes Dioptase specimens, sometimes She throws in a "custom trim package" with the deal. It wasn't enough that the original Dioptase crystals were: large (0.62 inch or 1.57 cm), brilliantly glassy, and on contrasting white Calcite. Just to gild the lily, so to speak, She has given the large Dioptase prisms a second coat of tiny, druzy Dioptase crystals. These little crystals are all over the bigger ones like poppy seeds on a Kaiser roll. This sparkling little treasure is in most excellent condition. There is an accession number on the bottom - "_583?" or something to that effect. It seems like part of the somewhat blurred tag is missing, and we do not have a label to reference for clarification.
