Musonoi Mine, Kolwezi Dist., Katanga Copper Crescent, Katanga (Shaba) Province, Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire)

The Sklodowska/Curie families certainly left their mark on history: Some Nobel Prizes here, a few new elements there, an Institute or two - pretty soon you have a legacy. Part of that legacy involves three minerals: Sklodowskite and Cuprosklodowskite (named strictly for Marie), and Curite which honors both of them. The finest examples of this "hot" mineral come from the Uranium mines of the Congo, where Cuprosklodowskite forms brilliant green needlelike crystals in veins and cavities in the orebody. Its stunningly attractive color and luster need no help in eliciting sounds of approval from onlookers. This is one of the most colorful and desirable of the Uranium minerals.
