Description

Cuprite on Copper
Rubtsovsk Mine, Rubtsovsky District, Altai Krai, Russia
8.0 x 6.4 x 4.8 cm (3.15 x 2.52 x 1.89 in)

This is an excellent combination specimen of opaque metallic silver-black Cuprite octahedrons on crystallized Copper from the famous Rubtsovsk deposit. The intergrown Cuprite crystals, measuring up to 2.9 centimeters in length, are well-formed, with sharp edges and distinct shapes that are highlighted by the strong luster. The arrangement of this piece is well-balanced, with the Cuprite mainly occurring toward the front and the Copper toward the back, though some Copper is still visible through the Cuprite, nicely showcasing both components of the specimen. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.

"A group of excellent octahedral Cuprite crystals on crude patinaed Copper Crystals. From the one-time find that produced numerous silvery Cuprites, and Copper pseudos after Cuprite."
-Bruce Carter

From the collection of Bruce Carter [BC1101].
Ex. Clive Queit collection.
