Chrysocolla & Quartz var. "Gem" Chrysocolla
Live Oak Pit, Inspiration Mine, Miami-Inspiration Deposit, Inspiration, Miami-Inspiration District, Globe-Miami District, Gila Co., Arizona, USA

"A vein section of gem chrysocolla. Not like the best piece in the Richard Rice collection, but other than that, as good as I have seen. I got this specimen when I sold Earl Calvert's collection for the family many years after Earl Calvert died. I wanted to keep this piece safe from the cutters wheel where almost all of it ends up. Over the years I have managed to get a number of fine lapidary pieces that I have added to the collection to try, at least in my lifetime to keep from the cutters wheel. The piece weighs 633 grams or 3165 carats. If a cutter gets a 15% yield out of the piece that would be 474 carats of finished goods. The stuff sells for up to about $100 per carat for finished goods of the right color. If you figure $50 per carat that would make this piece worth almost $25,000."
    - Rock H. Currier

We would have to agree with his assessment - you do the math. The question is: will the new owner do what Rock did? "... try, at least in my lifetime to keep from the cutters wheel." Inquiring minds want to know ...
