Description
Chrysanthemum StoneHunan Province
China
This Chrysanthemum stone represents ancient material dating back nearly 270 million years, and its name derives from its resemblance to the Chrysanthemum flower. The unique material is beautiful and comes from only one locality in the world. There is a long tradition in Asia regarding the acquisition and display of natural stone items that resemble other familiar objects or natural features. These can range from rocks that mimic mountains, islands, animals and, in this case, flowers. The "flowers" are actually radiating groups of colorless Celestine crystals which slowly formed as radiating crystals under highly pressurized conditions. The "flowers" are carefully exposed before the whole piece is polished into its final shape. This fine example features two radiating "flowers" exposed in high relief, emerging from a matrix of a satiny, black Limestone, creating an exceptional sculptural and decorative piece. This designer stone sits on a flat cut base without need of a stand.
Measurements: 10.04 x 5.91 x 3.15 inches (25.50 x 15.00 x 8.00 cm)
