Braden Mine (Teniente Mine), El Teniente, Rancagua, Cachapoal Province, Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region, Chile

The arsenate family of minerals has a lot of colorful members. Many of them were found in Cornwall, England, but there are many other locations that have produced a specimen or two over the years. El Teniente Chalcophyllites show up, but not all that frequently, and never more than a few. This fine specimen was originally sold in 1964 by Schortmann's Minerals, an old-line dealer in Massachusetts, to noted author, researcher and book dealer/collector - John Sinkankas. It subsequently ended up in the inventory of dealer John Attard. This specimen is quite rich in pearly turquoise-blue crystals of Chalcophyllite: a rare Copper Arsenate. Along with it are dark green, botryoidal groups of another Copper Arsenate: Cornwallite. The specimen is larger than most and shows broad expanses of the Chalcophyllite 'frosting.' Its condition is pristine and it will stay that way as long as experimental fingers refrain from poking the "pretty sparklers."
    Overall Measurements: 5.5 x 3.0 x 1.5 inches (13.96 x 7.61 x 0.59 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: John Attard Minerals, ex. John Sinkankas Collection, ex. Schortmann's [Hoppel #D1871]

    Estimate: $1,200 - $1,800.
