Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

Cerussite has been an ore of Lead long enough that even its name is old. Cerussite is from the Latin "Cerussa" meaning 'White Lead.' Most Cerussite is virtually unidentifiable and only occasionally does it form crystals of any attractiveness. Of the many locations where it is found in crystals, Tsumeb in Namibia is most noteworthy for having produced complex "snowflakes:" masses of colorless twinned crystals forming reticulated masses. Here we have just such a reticulated mass: a dense aggregate of bladed crystals with hollow areas extending from one side of the crystal group to the other. At five inches across and 1.5 inches in thickness, this is not a small Cerussite and is most likely from the famous 1979 pocket, which produced some of the very finest specimens that Tsumeb has ever seen. It is in excellent condition with the exception of a couple of broken crystals that do not detract from the overall aesthetics and completeness of form. It comes with a custom acrylic stand.
    Overall Measurements: 5.0 x 4.0 x 1.5 inches (12.7 x 10.16 x 3.81 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Dave Bunk, ex. Helen & Charles Leavitt Jr. Collection (#6.8-3) [Hoppel #D1755]

    Estimate: $20,000 - $25,000.
