Jalgaon District, Maharashtra, India

This is a shining example of just how good, a good Calcite from the Indian Zeolite quarries can be. In this case, we have a twinned pair of crystals some 4.69 inches (11.19 cm) across, parked rather conspicuously in the middle of a gas bubble excavated in the local basalt quarry. It is flawlessly transparent and the color of a decent Chardonnay, with a surface luster both shiny and waxy at the same time. The Calcite rests on a bed of sparkling, druzy Quartz of some translucency. Bladed Stilbites of a pale tan color are scattered at random over the Quartz with a small cluster of pyramidal Apophyllite of variable color at one side of the Calcite. Condition is excellent to pristine.
    Overall measurements: 7.5 x 7 x 4.25 inches (19.1 x 17.8 x 10.8 cm).

Provenance: Keith Proctor [Hoppel # D1779]

    Estimate: $6,500 - $8,000.
