    Description

    Calcite with Malachite
Cole Shaft, 1300 Level, Bisbee, Warren District, Mule Mts, Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

Among the most coveted of Bisbee specimens are water-clear Calcites that contain other minerals as inclusions. This fine specimen was collected in 1965 on the 1300' Level of the Cole Shaft by Melvin Elkins. It is a very showy example that is a reddish-brown matrix plate, graced with shining Calcite scalenohedra, which are enclosing microscopic needles of green Malachite. Interestingly enough, only the Calcites in direct contact with the matrix show the green Malachite color; any Calcite crystals perched on top of those are colorless. The green and colorless Calcite groups cover both sides of the matrix, giving the owner the option of displaying either: side "A" - which is profusely covered with the Calcites, or side "B" - which sports separate groupings and more of the matrix. The condition is pristine with no visible damage.
    Overall Measurements: 6.0 x 3.8 x 1.1 inches (15.2 x 9.5 x 2.9 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

    Provenance: Ex. Sam Elkins Collection

    Estimate: $3,000 - $5,000.
