Calcite Stalactites. Wenshan. Yunnan. China. ... (Total: 2 Items)
An extremely fine example of an otherwise common material, this trio of Calcite Stalactites resembles a grouping of Palm Trees on a tiny deserted island. The 'towers' are perched on a common base of Calcite with a sandy, granular carpeting of crystalline material over the complex surfaces. Several "bushes" and "trees" of Calcite pop up around the main larger "stalactitic" forms which represent several generations of growth over a lengthy period of time. The tops are rather clear and offer another aspect of contrast to the subtly colorful stalks. The unique piece was displayed in the 2013 'Crystalline Treasures of China' exhibit at the University of Arizona as well as illustrated in the book "Crystalline Treasures of China" on Page 97. A custom engraved acrylic base accompanies this Calcite to allow for secure, dramatic and vertical display.
