Beryl var. Aquamarine with Albite "The Ram's Horn"
    Shigar Valley, Skardu District

This spectacular mineral specimen is called "The Ram's Horn" due to the well-crystallized, crescent-shaped cluster of Albite Feldspar crystals which have grown attached to the prism faces of the Aquamarine. The Aquamarine is a tightly packed cluster of three hexagonal, prismatic crystals reaching 4.5 inches (11.5 cm) tall and possessing highly lustrous, pinacoid terminations. An alluring aqua-blue color, excellent transparency and glassy luster are exhibited by this Aquamarine. The specimen is in outstanding condition.

The Shigar Valley region of Pakistan's Skardu District is known as the source of some of the world's finest Aquamarine crystals. The Aquamarine-bearing pockets occur in zoned pegmatitic dikes and veins which outcrop on the rugged mountain sides of the Shigar Valley, often at elevations exceeding 13,000 feet above sea level. This eye-catching specimen from Pakistan would be a welcome addition to anyone's mineral cabinet.
