Adun-Chilon, Nerchinsk, Chitinskaya Oblast', Transbaikalia, Eastern-Siberian Region, Russia

The Adun-Chilon Beryl deposit was first opened in 1828, and, according to the Russian Mineralogical Society, there were crystals up to 5.9 x 1.57 inches (15 x 4 cm) in size. Surprise!! - This one is a whopping 6.5 inches (16.4 cm) in height and 2.38 inches (6 cm) in diameter. Very characteristic of material from this locality is the transverse banding of the crystals that show, as this one does, a pale blue-green body color with 8-10 alternating zones of deeper blue-green color and one area of almost Heliodor yellow. Exterior surfaces show a "frosty" appearance due to tiny sub-surface inclusions very much like "tubes." Terminal faces are conversely bright and glassy in luster and bear the usual marks of unskilled removal - some nicks to the edges. In conclusion, this is a fine and extremely large example of a Russian Aquamarine from an old locality that hasn't produced in years. It is also accompanied by a custom acrylic base.
    Overall Measurements: 6.45 x 2.36 x 1.71 inches (16.4 x 6 x 4.34 cm)

    Estimate: $40,000 - $50,000.
