    "Blue triangular benitoite crystals to over an inch on matrix with a few prismatic black neptunite crystals and a few micro joaquinites. Repaired. Bought from Willard Perkins when he sold his collection."

    Willard "Perk" Perkins will go down in the annals of mineral collecting as the famous (infamous) inventor/manufacturer of the eponymously named: 'perky boxes.' There are thousands (possibly millions) of mineral specimens imprisoned within the crystal-clear walls of these cubic housings. Before copiers and micro-printing, Perk had figured out how to photo-reduce typewritten labels to fit his boxes: quite an innovation to be honest, and, a hell of a lot of work, too. There are still many of his labels gracing many a TN specimen. Time moves on, TN boxes are still in use today and copiers have replaced the demanding photo work. What is less appreciated is that Perk also collected sizable pieces, not just thumbnails, as evidenced by this fine Benitoite cabinet specimen that Rock bought directly from him.
