Tur? Mine (Ghezuri Mine), Tur?, Negre?ti-Oa?, Oa? Mts, Satu Mare, Satu Mare Co., Romania

Some things are so perfect that they are almost painful, almost enough to make you bite your knuckles. This Baryte is up for inclusion in that rarefied category, because, in spite of Baryte's intolerance for abuse, this matrix example not only made it out of the mine, but has survived transport and handling ever since. The main Baryte takes the form of a 'flower' of colorless, thin blades arranged in fan-shaped groups rising from the top of the gossan matrix. A secondary group at one side and numerous smaller blades festoon the upper surface of the matrix. The luster and perfection of form are nothing short of miraculous. Operated since medieval times, the locality only began using modern style mining techniques in 1973. It is redundant to mention that the condition is pristine. If you collect Baryte (the new approved spelling) then you might want to look a little closer at this one. The specimen comes with a custom acrylic base.
