Description

    BARYTE with CHALCOPYRITE
Dreislar Mine, Dreislar, Winterberg, Sauerland, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

First opened for Lead, Zinc and Copper ores, the Dreislar Mine was later a producer of Baryte up until closing in 2007. During that time, the mine sporadically produced the unique Baryte and Chalcopyrite combinations seen here. Thin, white knife-blade Baryte crystals liberally dusted with iridescent, twinned crystals of Chalcopyrite are the hallmark of this locality. At 12 inches (30.48 cm) in height, this is a very large example of a Dreislar Baryte. Some pink areas are evident on the sides of the specimen; otherwise, it is primarily off-white with tan overtones and has no matrix. It is in excellent condition and has a custom acrylic base.
    Overall Measurements: 12.0 x 5.0 x 4.0 inches (30.48 x 12.7 x 10.16 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

    Provenance: Western Minerals [Hoppel #D0678]
