Description

BARITE & FLUORITE ON SPHALERITE
Elmwood Mine Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee
Walt Gaylord, Mine Geologist at the Elmwood Mine had this fine example of what Elmwood was capable of producing, in his personal collection for many years. It not only displays some of the minerals that this mine was famous for, it displays exceptional examples of three of those mineral; all in one specimen. Lustrous ruby Sphalerite crystals form the base for large, deep-purple cubes of Fluorite up to 2 ¼ inches on edge. Looking like a scoop of pineapple ice cream is a ball of golden Barite perched conspicuously off to one side for heightened contrast. All of the minerals are in pristine condition. The entire specimen is housed within a custom Mahogany and Acrylic display case. This is as good as it gets from this locality. 9h x 9w x 7 ½ inches deep.
