Description

Azurite with Chalcoalumite (or Gibbsite or ?)
Bisbee, Warren District, Mule Mts, Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

Almost a "boulder" in size, this very large cabinet specimen is a cavernous mix of red ocher matrix and coatings of Azurite and Chalcoalumite (or Gibbsite or ?) that display an assortment of forms and colors; starting with sparkling encrustations of deep blue Azurite lining cavities and dusting the typical rust brown matrix. It is a fine example of a Bisbee "gossan" specimen whose attractiveness is amplified by a second version of Azurite of a lighter tint and matte luster, along with a white coating of Chalcoalumite (or Gibbsite or ?) of similar matte luster. It can be viewed from any direction: there are numerous cavities anywhere you look. Like many gossan specimens, it was broken free of the ore that surrounded it. With that understood, its condition is excellent.
    Overall Measurements: 8.7 x 7.4 x 4.8 inches (22.0 x 18.8 x 12.1 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Ex. Bruce Mead Collection, ex. Don Baker Collection, ex. James Melton Collection
