Description

AZURITE
Touissit, Touissit District, Oujda-Angad Province, Oriental Region, Morocco

Lesser known than the Azurite from Tsumeb, Namibia, or Bisbee, Arizona, Touissit may be the top contender for fielding the most transparent and the most brilliant Azurite on the planet. Here an irregular wandering cavity played host to an absolute legion of glittering blades of deep, deep blue with gemstone level transparency. Some are around 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in length and there are at least fifty of them accompanied by a lot of Malachite coated carbonate mineral rhombs. This is interspersed with bit of rust orange cellular "boxwork" derived from weathered Pyrite and similar sulfides. The matrix is a fine-grained mixture of unoxidized Pyrite and various and sundry copper minerals of no particular importance. There are a few broken crystals but most are pristine in perfection of form, luster and color. Comes with a custom acrylic base.
Overall measurements: 6 x 6 x 4.8 inches (15.2 x 15.2 x 12.2 cm).

Provenance: Luis Leite [Hoppel # D1877]
