Description
AzuriteShilu Mine, Yangchun Co.
Yangjiang, Guangdong
China
This Azurite "Rose" hails from the oldest and most famous locality in China for the variety and absolutely massive for the material. The example is in remarkable condition, especially given how few larger pieces were ever recovered. Effectively complete all around, this dimensional offering boasts an electric luster, and an intense blue coloration more along the lines of royal than navy like most Azurites tend to display. Presented on a custom engraved acrylic base, this natural wonder is layered with a mountainous form as well as some minor associated Malachite visible. This piece likely dates back to the late 1980s although it could be from a small, more contemporary, find discovered a few years ago. While such Azurite "Roses" are somewhat common, one of this size coupled with its rich and deep coloration, sets it apart. In fact, this variety was one of the earliest iconic and known Chinese mineral finds to reach western collectors.
Measurements: 4.49 x 3.67 x 3.14 inches (11.40 x 9.33 x 7.97 cm)
