Liufengshan Mine, Guichi District, Chizhou Prefecture, Anhui Province, China

The demand for industrial metals in China has had two main effects within that country's mining sector: it has boosted the number of producing mines in China; and it has allowed artisanal mining operations that would not be cost-effective in purely capitalist countries. Fortunately for collectors, it's just those artisanal miners that have the opportunity to 'high-grade' fine specimen material before it goes to the smelter, which is exactly what happened to this superb Azurite/Malachite group. Here multiple episodes of encrustation and crystal growth are delineated by alternating blue and green bands, visible on one edge of the specimen. The last sparkling blue Azurite layer is incompletely overgrown by nodular growths of deep green Malachite of almost organic appearance. Luster is scintillating on the deep blue Azurite areas, while the Malachite shows a more subtle 'velvet' type of reflectivity interspersed with tiny flashes from microscopic crystal faces. Overall, condition of this large cabinet specimen is excellent to pristine with no observable damage. It is accompanied by a custom labeled acrylic base.
    Overall Measurements: 7.75 x 6.0 x 3.25 inches (19.7 x 15.24 x 8.3 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.
