Description

    AQUAMARINE
    Erongo Mountain, Erongo Region, Namibia

Native diggers exploit cavities in the granites of the Erongo Massif of Namibia as a source of badly needed cash in this rarely mentioned country. The greater proportion of specimens removed from these cavities are deep black Schorl Tourmalines appearing in a bewildering variety of forms. Here they appear as simple, stubby prisms with shining faces. What sets this apart as a specimen is the presence of four Aquamarine crystals of uncommon clarity, two of which are of significant size [1.38 inches (3.5 cm long)]. Both large Aquas are double-terminated and of the light blue color typical of Erongo material. Besides being uncommonly transparent, one of them is quite complex in form for Erongo Beryls with multiple, parallel faces. There are a number of nicks, but they do not appreciably detract from the overall tenor of the piece which is engaging and attractive. Comes with a custom acryilic base.
    Overall Measurements: 4.5 x 3.0 x 2.0 inches (11.4 x 7.6 x 5.1 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

    Provenance: Minerals America [Hoppel #D2169]
