Chumar Bakhoor, Hunza Valley, Gilgit District, Gilgit-Baltistan (Northern Areas), Pakistan

One can only wonder what sort of reaction was produced when this specimen first emerged into the light from its dark and silent resting place among the high peaks of the Northern Areas of Pakistan. When it came out in 1995, the political situation was not quite as volatile as today, and production of specimens was considerably greater, but even back then this was an exceptional matrix specimen. The central focus of the piece is a massive hexagonal prism almost 4 inches across (10.15 cm) and 2.25 inches (5.7 cm) in height. The powder blue coloration, coupled with an extremely glassy luster, results in an aesthetic effect of serious power. The bladed Muscovite matrix provides a complementary contrast in color and texture to the glassy gem crystal nestled amidst the blades. In addition to the main crystal, there are two incomplete ones at one end of the piece. The Aquamarine and the Muscovite are both in pristine condition: a situation rarely seen in large Pakistani specimens. There is a custom acrylic base that displays the specimen in the vertical position shown in the first photograph, but it also naturally sits in a horizontal position as shown in the second photograph.
    Overall Measurements: 9.25 x 6.25 x 5.25 inches (23.5 x 15.88 x 13.34 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.

Provenance: Mountain Minerals International [Hoppel #D0375]
