Description

AQUAMARINE
Guaratinga (Jaquetô), Bahia, Brazil

Large and stout enough to qualify as a 'blunt instrument' in an Agatha Christie story, this hefty blue green monster weighs an almost perfect: one kilo (5,021.5 carats). The reason for citing the carat weight is that a significant percentage of the terminated crystal is gem quality. The high level of interior transparency is obscured by considerable 're-solution' of the Beryl leading to a myriad of small faces, arranged parallel to the long axis of the crystal, all of which reflect highly. The massive prism is terminated in a complex fashion and there are signs of attachment to the cavity wall at one end. The color is a uniform sea-blue-green that is unique to Aquamarine that has never been heated or otherwise altered. The form and color are entirely in keeping with its Brazilian origin.
Bluntly stated, this is a hell of an Aquamarine and very desirable as a gift, a possession or an instrument of ... mystery.
Overall measurements: 7 x 2.25 x 2.25 inches (17.8 x 5.7 x 5.7 cm).

Provenance: Luis Leite [Hoppel # D1608]
