Andradite with Sphalerite and Galena. El Mochito Mine, Las Vegas Municipality, Santa Bárbara Department, Honduras
Description
Andradite with Sphalerite and GalenaEl Mochito Mine, Las Vegas Municipality, Santa Bárbara Department, Honduras
17 x 11 x 8 cm (6.69 x 4.33 x 3.15 in)
Despite being one of, if not the largest mine in Central America, it is very rare to see any specimen-grade materials coming from El Mochito Mine. Nevertheless, here is an exceptional and very large specimen from the locality that is lined with very showy clusters of Andradite with sharp, complex crystals of Sphalerite and Galena scattered across the field of view. The Andradite crystals have a sharp dodecahedral shape, strong vitreous luster, and stand out with a gemmy amber-red hue. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.
From the collection of Daniel "Dan" R. Kennedy.
Ex. Rich Museum of Rocks and Minerals collection.
More Information: This piece is in excellent condition with some minor wear on the Sphalerites along the edge of the specimen.
