Iraí, Alto Uruguai Region, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
The Iraí region of southern Brazil is justifiably known for the beautiful Amethyst "flowers" that are unique to the area. On average most of these "flowers" are no larger than 3-4 inches in diameter. This very fine specimen is extremely large and features, not one, but two "flowers": there is a 5-inch (12.7 cm) "flower" perched on top of an even larger 6-inch (15.24 cm) "flower". Both "flowers" have dark purple centers that fade out to colorless on their edges - the radiating Amethyst crystals range upwards to an inch in length - and there is a small Basalt matrix base supporting both of them. This large cabinet specimen is in fine condition.
Overall measurements: 11 x 7 x 3 inches (27.9 x 17.8 x 7.6 cm). Offered at no reserve.
Provenance: Dave Crawford [Hoppel Catalog # D2093]
[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
