Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

At a time some 20 to 30 years ago, one locality in Brazil produced a lot of these intriguing Polyhedral Agates as they have come to be called. Whether the locality is exhausted, "lost," or simply not being worked is not known. What is true is that the supply has dried up, and large examples like this one are now only rarely seen. John White, the former curator of Mineralogy at the Smithsonian Institution, is currently writing a magazine article on these fascinating geometric Agates which will provide more detailed information. This piece is larger than most and has been sawn and polished to show the druzy white interior, as well as the banding of the Geode walls. Under SW UV. the specimen shows three colors: a cream interior, a blue line some distance towards the exterior and a green band just below the exterior surface. The specimen is in pristine condition, and the piece is freestanding on one of its natural "faces."
    Overall Measurements: 5.55 x 2.77 x 3.04 inches (14.1 x 7.04 x 7.73 cm)
    Offered at no reserve.
